 Pensions

 Question

"I find it harder to manage on just the pension I have have each week."

 Answer

Helping customers navigate or access the welfare benefits system is a daily occurrence for Age Concern Derby & Derbyshire and we try to ensure that everyone claims any benefit which is rightfully theirs. Several of our factsheets are dedicated to information about benefits and these are freely available from our information offices. We will also chat things over privately with anyone who wishes it, and help fill in forms with anyone who cannot manage alone. We estimate that we helped people claim about £½ million in benefits last year.

 Residential care

 Question

Can I choose which residential care home I am to live in?

 Answer

Yes, everyone has the right to choose which accommodation will suit them best. Our Residential Advocacy Project specialises in helping people get the right information to enable them to make informed choices about their future. Factsheets are also freely available about the charging procedures for residential and nursing homes, and about how to find a suitable home.

 Answer

 Support

 Question

"My father lives many miles away from us and we can only visit him about once a month. Each visit he seems more frail and struggling to manage at home. I'm worried he doesn't eat properly."

 Answer

We have factsheets that explain the different types of support someone can receive, and how to access those services, in order to enable them to remain independent and living in the community.

 Age Concern Pre-arranged Funeral Plan

 Question

How can I be sure my funeral will be carried out as I requested?

 Answer

Once you've made your arrangements, the nominated funeral director will guarantee to carry them out whenever they are required, including any special arrangements or requests you may have made.

 Question

What happens to my funeral if costs go up dramatically?

 Answer

When you pre-pay your funeral with Age Concern you are safe, because your funeral director's services are guaranteed at that price, even if these costs go up later. Your plan also includes a contribution towards other costs that relate to your funeral.

 Question

What is the trust for Age Concern Funeral Plans and how will it ensure that my money is secure?

 Answer

The Trust for Age Concern Funeral Plans is a trust fund in which funeral pre-payments are held and carefully invested and whose assets are entirely separate and independent of the Age Concern Funeral Plan. It is this independence that guarantees the security of the money you have paid. Only Barclays Bank plc, which is a Custodian Trustee, can make payments from the Trust Fund.
