Pension Credit was introduced on 6th October 2003 and
replaced Minimum Income Guarantee (MIG). For pensioners
aged 65 and over, it provides a reward to those who
have modest additional income over the basic state pension.
For people 60 and over it provides at least the same
minimum income as before. Since Pension Credit was
introduced Age Concern Derby & Derbyshire have
helped secure approximately £100,000 in unclaimed
benefits. Can we help you?
Pension Credit provides extra help for many people
aged 60 and over. You may be one of them. Claims made
up to October 2004 will be backdated to the start
of the scheme. But don’t delay, find out now…
How can I find out more?
You have several choices how to find out more.
· If you were already getting Minimum Income
Guarantee you should have automatically been transferred
to Pension Credit. If this did not happen phone
0845 60 60 265.
· The Government will be writing to people
aged 60 and over about Pension Credit. They say
everyone over 60 will be approached some time over
the coming 12 months. So you could wait and take
action then.
· You could telephone the Pension Credit
telephone application line on 0800 99 1234. The
line is open Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and
8 p.m. and on Saturday 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. (If you
are calling from a mobile phone please note the
call will not be free and will be charged at national
rate). If you have all your financial information
ready, including your National Insurance Number
the Pension Service Advisers will fill in the form
over the telephone and send it out to you for signing.
· You could obtain our free Pension Credit
Information Pack. The pack gives you information
on entitlement and calculations and includes an
invitation for a free postal benefit check by our
trained advisers. The packs are available from our
information offices at Heanor, Derby & Long
Eaton (and from some of our local services). Alternatively
phone our Head Office at Heanor and we will post
one out.
